Pogo Producing Co., Houston, announced a natural gas discovery near Thibodaux in Lafourche Parish, La. The Pogo No. 1 Kearns well was drilled and cased through the Lower Miocene to 14,668 ft TD. Wireline logs show four potentially productive sandstone intervals of gas and 195 true vertical net ft of gas pay. Pogo anticipates this well can be tested and put on production during the second quarter. Pogo is operator of this Thibodaux play, owning 47.5% interest. Other partners include Dominion Exploration & Production Inc., Houston, and the Pennington Group.

Fidelity Exploration & Production Co., Denver, Colo., said it increased its gas reserves through an active drilling and acquisition program. Fidelity E&P is the gas and oil production segment of MDU Resources Group Inc., Bismarck, ND. As of Dec. 31, 2000, Fidelity E & P had 400 bcf equivalent of proven natural gas and oil reserves compared with 357 bcf equivalent on Dec. 31, 1999.

Canadian Superior Energy Inc., Calgary, reported oil and gas discoveries in the Bison Lake and Giroux Lake areas of north central Alberta. Canadian Superior said the wholly owned Bison Lake gas discovery is expected to produce 5 MMcfd when tied into other producing properties in the area. Canadian Superior has a 25% interest in the Giroux Lake oil discovery, which tested at more than 200 b/d.

Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., Houston, said the North Lake Pelto discovery well on state lease 16705 in Terrebonne Parish, La., reached a measured depth of 16,343 ft. The well encountered 236 ft of net pay in 14 sands. Cabot has a 75% working interest and is the operation of the well, which currently is waiting on completion. Palace Exploration Co. holds the remaining interest.
