PetroChina makes new finds in Xinjiang

PetroChina Co. Ltd. has made three major discoveries in northwestern China�s Junggar basin of Xinjiang region with combined estimated oil in place of almost 200 million tonnes. The Junggar basin is believed to hold 8.6 billion tonnes of crude and 2.1 trillion cu m of gas resources.

BEIJING, Feb. 7�PetroChina Co. Ltd. has made three major discoveries in northwestern China�s Junggar basin of Xinjiang region with combined estimated oil in place of almost 200 million tonnes.

PetroChina estimates the Luliang prospect, discovered in June last year in the center of the basin, has probable oil reserves of 100 million tonnes, with 70 million tonnes proven recoverable. The company has drilled 15 wells in the prospect; all flowed oil at commercial rates.

In the west of the basin, PetroChina discovered Kayingdike prospect last July. PetroChina estimates oil in place at 70 million tonnes. The discovery well Ka-6 flowed 409 b/d of oil.

The Tugu 2 well in the southern part of the basin flowed 241 b/d of crude. PetroChina estimates Tugu prospect has reserves of 20 million tonnes.

To date, PetroChina has discovered 25 oil and gas deposits in Junggar, with total proven reserves totaling 1.8 billion tonnes.

The Junggar basin is believed to hold 8.6 billion tonnes of crude and 2.1 trillion cu m of gas resources.

The company produces about 9 million tonnes/year of oil from the basin.
