KARACHI, Feb. 13A Pakistan-foreign joint venture will supply 170 MMcfd of gas to Sui Southern Gas Co. Ltd. (SSGCL) from Sawan field in Pakistan's Sindh Province.

The SW-Miano JV will invest $160 million over 2 years to bring the field on stream. A preliminary agreement was signed last year (OGJ Online, Oct. 11, 2000).

Deliveries of the gas via the existing Kadanwari pipeline will begin in late 2002 or early 2003. The joint venture also plans to increase deliveries from Sawan by 100 MMcfd or more when transmission capacity becomes available.

OMV AG's Pakistani unit operates the JV with 19.7%; Agip SPA owns 23.7%; Moravske Naftove Doly, 7.9%; Pakistan Petroleum Ltd., 26.2%; and the government, 22.5%.

OMV discovered Sawan field in January 1998.

The JV declared the gas field commercial in December 1999 following 3D-appraisal and drilling of a successful appraisal well. OMV said gas reserves are 1.5 tcf.

OMV planned to complete engineering work for the gas-processing facilities by June. Two more production wells will be drilled by then.
