Oiltec Resources Ltd., Calgary, has plugged and abandoned its most recent Ordovician exploratory well at Yellow Grass in southeastern Saskatchewan. Oiltec said the well found the Winnipeg Sand and Yeoman reservoirs but drillstem tests and logging results did not support completing the well as an oil producer, said Oiltec.
Triton Energy Ltd., Dallas, Tex., said its F-1 exploration well off Equatorial Guinea found shows but was a dry hole. The $5.5 million duster was Triton's first well on Block F; it was the fourth of a six-well exploration program on blocks F and G. F-1 is 33 miles northeast of Ceiba-1 well on Block G. The R. F. Bauer drillship was returning to Triton's Ceiba Field in Block G, where it was due to drill two water-injection wells and one development well.
Shell Exploration & Production Co. on behalf of itself and partner BP awarded Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., Ulsan, South Korea, a contract to fabricate the host facility for the Na Kika project in the US Gulf of Mexico. The contract includes construction of hull and topsides, integration of the components, and transportation to the site on Mississippi Canyon Block 474 (OGJ Online, Oct. 9, 2000).
Woodside Petroleum Ltd. said the Audacious-1 exploration well on permit AC/P17 in the Vulcan subbasin in the Timor Sea tested 9,100 b/d of 55�-oil from a 3 m perforated interval. Cultus Timor Sea Ltd. operates the permit with 35%; Cosmo Oil Ashmore Ltd. owns 35%; and Woodside owns 30%.
Western GECO, a 70:30 joint venture of Schlumberger Ltd. and Baker Hughes Inc., said it and Suriname state oil company Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname BV has acquired more seismic data in near-shore Suriname that will be used as part of a planned bidding round later this year and in 2002.
Sable Offshore Energy Inc. has awarded Kværner ASA and SNC-Lavalin Group a front-end engineering and design contract for the ALMA platform. The contract includes engineering, procurement, and construction management for a jacket, wellhead platform, and subsea pipeline tieback to the Thebaud processing facility 50 km away. The platform is part of the Tier 2 development of Sable gas field off Nova Scotia.
International Petroleum Libya Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Swedish company Lundin Oil AB, has awarded engineering, procurement, installation, and construction contracts for processing facilities and a 94.5-km pipeline for En Naga North and West oil fields in area NC177 of Libya. The En Naga North and West Field contains proven and probable reserves of more than 100 million bbl of oil.
Gemini Energy Corp., Vancouver, said the Warbonnet property on the Pinedale anticline in T30N R108W in Sublette County, Wyo., is producing 6.5 MMcfd of gas and 60 b/d of condensate. Ultra Petroleum Corp. operates the field. Gemini owns 41.6%.
Beta Oil & Gas Inc., Newport Beach, Calif., has completed a gas find in a previously untested fault block in an existing field in Terrebone Parish, La. TC-1 was drilled to 16,834 ft and tested through perforations at 15,946-15,974 ft at up to 10.8 MMcfd of gas and 400 b/d of oil with flowing tubing pressure of 9,740 psi on a 16/64-in. choke. Beta has a 16.68% working interest in the well.
Search Energy Corp., Calgary, has farmed-in on 233 sections northwest of its key operating area at Wainwright, Alta. Search will drill eight wells before September and shoot at least $250,000 (Can.) of geophysical data. After meeting the commitment, Search will earn an interest in each section it has drilled and the right to continue to drill on the remaining lands until Feb. 1, 2003. Search also agreed to sell an unnamed buyer its entire interest in the Klua area of British Columbia for $9.2 million (Can.).
BP awarded FMC Corp.'s energy systems unit a 5-year, $250 million frame contract to provide subsea systems and related services in the Gulf of Mexico. FMC will provide subsea trees, controls, manifolds, well connection systems, and related services. Hardware deliveries are expected to begin in late 2002, with the initial project management and engineering work beginning immediately.
Aspen Group Resources Corp., Oklahoma City, Okla., has acquired working interests ranging up to 45% in 36 wells in 16 different counties in the Anadarko basin of western Oklahoma from an unnamed seller for $665,000 in cash and stock. The working interests average 9.3% and net revenue interests average 7.5% on current production.
Santos Ltd., operator of the South West Queensland Unit, said exploration well Roti-2 in the Queensland sector of the Cooper-Eromanga basins flowed 189,700 cu m/day of gas and 76 kl. of condensate through a 13-mm surface choke from the Permian Toolachee at 2,231-46 m. Roti-2 is in a separate area of the Roti structure and is 2 km southeast of Roti gas field. The well is 35 km east of the Ballera Gas Center. Santos owns 60.06% interest in the well; Delhi Petroleum Pty. Ltd. 23.2%; and Origin Energy Ltd. 16.5%.
Empire Petroleum Corp., Tulsa, completed the Timber Draw No. 1-AH well in Niobrara County, Wyo., as an oil producer in the New Castle/Muddy, said well partner Americomm Resources Corp., Tulsa. The well was drilled to 10,578 ft measured depth, with the last 2,030 ft drilled horizontally into the New Castle/Muddy. The well tested at 345 b/d of oil and 575 Mcf of gas through a 24/64-in. choke.
Murphy Oil Corp., El Dorado, Ark., said a well drilled in deepwater Moccasin prospect on Garden Banks 297 in the Gulf of Mexico was dry. The well was drilled to 20,447 ft. Shell Deepwater Development Inc. operated the well with 50% interest; Murphy had 37.5%; and Callon Petroleum Co., Natchez, Miss., 12.5%.
Santos Ltd., as operator for Australian petroleum exploration permit 154, said McIntee-1 wildcat has opened a gas field in the Victorian section of the Otway basin. McIntee-1 found a 16.5-m net gas column in the Cretaceous Waarre sand at 1,539-56 m. Santos operates the well with 90% interest and Beach Petroleum NL holds 10%.
DONG E&P AS has plugged and abandoned Connie-1 well on license 16/98 on block 5604/19-2 in the North Sea. Connie-1 was drilled to 2,351 m below mean sea level and terminated in chalk of presumed Danian age. The well found oil shows in Paleogene sands. DONG had 22% of the well, Denerco Oil AS 37%; LD Energi AS 24%; and RWE-DEA AG 17%.
Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has awarded Oceaneering International Inc. a contract to supply subsea umbilicals for the Roncador project in 2000 m of water in the Campos Basin off Brazil. Work on building seven umbilicals, with a combined length of 70 km, and associated hardware began in January. One umbilical will have nine high collapse resistant hoses, and another will have six. Delivery is expected in May.
