Indonesia's Pertamina has selected UOP LLC, Des Plaines, Ill., to supply technology for a 52,000 b/sd grassroots naphtha complex at the 125,000 b/d Balongan refinery in Indramayu, West Java. The unit will nearly double gasoline production capacity, enabling output of 107,000 b/sd of unleaded.

Indonesia's Pertamina has selected UOP LLC, Des Plaines, Ill., to supply technology for a 52,000 b/sd grassroots naphtha complex at the 125,000 b/d Balongan refinery in Indramayu, West Java.

The naphtha complex, which will be designed to process excess full range of naphtha, consists of a 52,000 b/sd naphtha hydrotreating unit, a 29,000 b/sd platforming unit, and a 21,000 b/sd light naphtha isomerization unit. The complex is expected to start up in January 2003.

The project is part of the Indonesian government's Blue Sky Program to phase lead from gasoline and produce environmentally friendly fuels.

The addition of the naphtha complex will allow an increase gasoline capacity at the Balongan refinery from 59,000 b/sd to 107,000, entirely unleaded.

UOP will begin basic engineering design immediately. Financing is being finalized.

UOP said its Refining and Petrochemicals Services group is conducting naphtha configuration and gasoline blending optimization studies for other Pertamina refineries.
