Islander East Pipeline LLC, a 50:50 joint venture between subsidiaries of Duke Energy Corp. and Keyspan Corp., has announced an open season for its proposed 40-mile gas pipeline from Connecticut to Long Island, NY. The 24-in. and 30-in. line will originate from Duke Energy unit Algonquin Gas Transmission Co.'s system and connect with KeySpan Energy Delivery Long Island's system. The pipeline, expected to begin operating in 2003, initially will provide 250,000 dekatherms/day of capacity.
Global Industries Offshore LLC, a subsidiary of Houston-based Global Industries Ltd., installed two pipelines and a braced caisson platform on Eugene Island 224 for BP in December. The system is in 135 ft of water. In October, BP awarded Global Industries a turnkey contract for off-season installation of the structures and associated diving services, as well as a contract to connect the pipelines to an existing platform also on Eugene Island 224.
The US Environmental Protection Agency said that through partnerships with state and local governments and industry it has received commitments to clean up 13,500 diesel trucks and buses across the country by Jan. 1, through its Voluntary Diesel Retrofit Program. Retrofitting the engines will eliminate more than 15,000 tons/year of pollution, said EPA.
The Canadian National Energy Board has delayed the start of a public hearing on the Murphy Canada Exploration Ltd.-Chinchaga Sales Gas Pipeline Loop until Feb. 15.
Fort Union Gas Gathering LLC plans to expand its gas gathering system in Wyoming to increase capacity to 634 MMcfd of gas from 434 MMcfd. A spokesman for the company said the system will accommodate the increase in production from the Powder River basin. The Fort Union Gas Gathering System extends 106 miles from near Gillette, Wyo., south to Glenrock, Wyo. Partners in Fort Union are affiliates of CMS Energy Corp., Northern Border Partners LP, Western Gas Resources Inc., Colorado Interstate Gas Co., and Barrett Resources Corp.
