BEIJING�China's Sinopec Star Petroleum Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of China Petroleum and Chemical Corp. (Sinopec), raised its crude production in 2000 to 2.5 million tonnes, up 62% over 1999.
Tahe field in northwestern China's Tarim basin accounted for 76% of the production.
Tahe has 300 million tonnes of crude reserves, with a production capacity of 2 million tonnes a year.
The company's gas production reached 1.7 billion cu m, up 19% on year.
By the end of November, Sinopec Star had drilled 80 exploration wells, of which 50 flowed oil, resulting in new reserves of 172 million tonnes.
The company also drilled 168 development wells with a total measured depth of 368,000 m by the end of November.
Of the development wells, 148 were put on flow, leading to new production capacity of 767,000 tonnes/year of oil and 563 million cu m/year of gas.
