Statoil's Åsgard B platform in the Norwegian Sea was brought back onstream Dec. 9 after improvements to the processing facilities, the Norwegian oil and gas giant reported today. A planned turnaround on the giant platform had been brought forward by one day, said Statoil, after gas leaks were discovered on Nov. 28.
"Processing facilities have been carefully inspected in order to correct errors," stated Ola Krumsvik, operations vice-president for Åsgard.
He said he expects daily gas output from the B platform to be ramped up to more than 20 million cu m during the coming week, adding that Norsk Hydro's Oseberg field and Statoil's Troll Gas have made up the balance of supplies to European customers during the Åsgard shut-down.
Åsgard B started gas production Oct. 1, and was producing some 14 million cu m/d when it was shut down, because of the discovery of a leak in a thermowell on a gas pipeline.
