CMS Oil & Gas tests Equatorial Guinea well

Nov. 21, 2000
CMS Oil & Gas Co., a unit of Dearborn, Mich.-based CMS Energy Corp., reported Tuesday it tested its Alba No. 8 well in Equatorial Guinea at 27.5 MMcfd of gas and 2,040 b/d of condensate. The well is the fourth and last in an accelerated development project, initiated in 1999 to increase the field's production capacity from 90 MMcfd of gas up to 225 MMcfd.

CMS Oil & Gas Co., a unit of Dearborn, Mich.-based CMS Energy Corp., said Tuesday that its Alba No. 8 well in Equatorial Guinea flowed at 27.5 MMcfd of gas and 2,040 b/d of condensate from a 46/64-in. choke at a flowing tubing pressure of 3,000 psi.

Alba field is 18 miles off Equatorial Guinea, north of Bioko Island.

The well is the fourth and last in an accelerated development project, initiated in 1999 to increase the field's production capacity from 90 MMcfd of gas up to 225 MMcfd.

Up to 125 MMcfd will be supplied to a methanol production plant under construction on Bioko Island. An additional 10 MMcfd will be used for onshore operations. The remaining 90 MMcfd will be reinjected. The methanol production plant is scheduled to be completed by the second quarter of 2001.

As part of the project, CMS and its partners installed a tripod well platform and 4-pile, 12-slot manned platform with compression, various infield flow lines, and a 19-mile pipeline from the Alba field to Bioko Island.

Partners are Samedan of North Africa Inc., an indirectly wholly-owned subsidiary of Noble Affiliates Inc., with 33.75%; Globex International, a subsidiary of GLOBEX Energy Inc., with 10.87%, the government of Equatorial Guinea, with 3%, and CMS Oil & Gas (E.G.) Ltd., with 52.38%.

CMS also reported that its Copeland 1H well in Lynn County, Tex., tested at more than 700 b/d and 1 MMcfd of gas after fracing the prospective productive zone.

The well was drilled vertically to 9,136 ft and horizontally to 4,350 ft in the Mississippian formation. CMS holds a 100% working interest in the well and holds the right to explore 23,000 acres of leases in the area. It expects to drill several more development wells.
