CALGARYChevron Canada Resources Ltd., Calgary, and partners have begun production from their M-25 well, near Fort Liard in Canadas Northwest Territories.

Chevron said the well flowed 35 MMcfd of gas and will increase to 50 MMcfd in a week. Production will be held there for a month. The facilities can handle rates of up to 75 MMcfd.

The gas flows to processing facilities at the Westcoast Energy Inc. gas plant at Fort Nelson, BC, and from there into the sales gas pipeline system.

The M-25 confirmed the K-29 discovery drilled by Chevron in 1999. The latter has produced more than 10.5 bcf since April. Current output is 70 MMcfd.

Chevron said recently it cannot expand the hot Fort Liard gas play because land will not be available until disputes are settled between the federal government and aboriginal groups.

Interest owners in the wells are Chevron, the operator, with 43.431%; Purcell Energy Inc., 24%; Berkley Petroleum Ltd., 21%; Anderson Resources, 4.1%; Paramount Resources Ltd., 2.760%; and Ranger Oil Ltd., 1.197%. Four other firms hold fractional shares.
