Triton Energy Ltd. said it spudded Monday the first of six planned exploration wells off Equatorial Guinea. The G-2 well, located on Block G, will test a prospect deeper than that of Triton's Ceiba field in the same block. Up to five additional exploration wells will be drilled through the first half of 2001, depending on well results (OGJ Online, Sept. 24, 2000).
Devon Energy Corp. said Tuesday it began initial combined production of 51.1 MMcfd of gas and 1,600 b/d of condensate from Eugene Island 156 No. A-1 and No. A-2 wells in 82 ft of water off Louisiana. The wells were drilled in the second quarter of 2000. Construction of a production platform and facilities was completed in August 2000. Devon is operator of the block and has a 100% working interest.
Gemini Energy Corp. said drilling has begun on its 13,096-acre natural gas lease on the Pinedale anticline in southwest Wyoming. The Mesa No. 10-21d well, in T.32N, R.109W, Sublette County, will be drilled to 13,400 ft by operating partner Anschutz Exploration Corp. Other working interest partners are Ultra Petroleum Corp. and Lance Oil & Gas Inc.
Ness Energy International Inc. and partner Israel Oil Co. awarded a contract to Lapidoth Israel Oil Prospectors Corp. Ltd. to re-enter and deepen the Har-Sedom No. 1 well in Israel, as anticipated in September (OGJ Online, Sept. 13). Drilling should begin by Christmas, said Ness.
Westfort Energy Ltd. said Patterson Drilling Co. will spud its Harold Karges No. 1 well in Pelahatchie field east of Jackson, Miss., by Dec. 1. The well will be drilled to 17,250 ft and will explore the Norphlet formation as well as the Upper and Lower Cretaceous and the Cotton Valley, Buckner/Haynesville, and Smackover horizons, said Westfort.
