Harken Energy Corp. has completed testing the Rosa Blanca formation in the Laurel No. 1 well on the Bolivar Association Contract area in Colombia. Harken said a section of drill string was lost in the hole, making evaluation difficult. It said the well produced about 30 b/d of oil from the Rosa Blanca and it next would test the La Luna. Construction was underway on 12-in. flowline.
Startech Energy Inc. said its Whiskey Creek well, dubbed Startech Cypress Whiskey, has reached a total depth of 3,500 m and production casing is being run. Production testing of potential gas pay within the Turner Valley Formation is planned in late October or early November, and the entire open hole section has been wireline logged. Startech Energy operates the well with a 60% holding, and Cypress Energy Inc. holds 40%.
CMS Oil & Gas Co., the exploration and production subsidiary of CMS Energy Corp., Dearborn, Mich., said Wednesday it has tested and completed the Alba No. 7 natural gas development well, located in the Alba field 18 miles off the coast of Equatorial Guinea, as part of an accelerated development project. The well found 266 ft of gas pay, and tested at rates of 53 MMcfd of gas and 3,000 b/d of condensate on a 1-in. choke at flowing tubing pressure of 3,100 psi.
Clayton Williams Energy Inc. said it will attempt to complete the Muse No. 1, a Cotton Valley Pinnacle Reef test well drilled to 16,785 ft in Robertson County, Tex. The company is concerned that there is less permeability and porosity in this well as compared to other reef wells drilled by Clayton Williams and is uncertain whether the completion attempt will be successful.
Parallel Petroleum Corp. said the Weaver-Dugger A No. 1 well in the Yegua/Frio gas trend in Jackson County, Tex., was drilled to total depth of 9,440 ft. The well was perforated in two intervals�9,310-9,321 ft and 9,323-9,326 ft�in the Frio formation and is flowing at 1.9 MMcfd of gas and 57 b/d of oil on a 9.75/64-in. choke with flowing tubing pressure of 4,750 psi. The company said production is likely to ramp up to 5 MMcfd of gas plus condensate during the next 30 days. Privately held Allegro Investments Inc. operates the well, Parallel holds 27.63% working interest, and other partners hold the remaining interest.
A Phillips Oil Co. Australia-led group spudded the long-awaited Coleraine-1 wildcat Oct. 4 in the Timor Gap permit ZOCA 96-16. Coleraine-1 is being drilled in 68 m of water updip and 12.5 km west of Marathon International Petroleum Inc.�s 1994 Minotaur-1 well that intersected a 7-m oil column in the Elang Formation and encountered further oil saturation in the underlying Plover Formation. Neither shows were tested at the time. The well is expected to reach total depth of 3,322 m next month. Phillips has 66%; Perth-based Norwest Energy NL, 14%; another Perth company, West Oil NL, 10%; and Trans-Orient Petroleum Ltd. has the remaining 10%.
Comstock Resources Inc. has completed production testing of its latest two wells in the Double A Wells field in Polk County, Tex. The Trostmann No. 2 well was drilled to a total depth of 14,650 ft and was completed in the upper Woodbine formation through perforations from 14,410-14,436 ft. The well tested at 8.2 MMcfd of gas and 144 b/d of condensate, flowing on a 14/64-in. choke at 8,000 psi flowing tubing pressure. Comstock owns a 59% working interest in and is the operator of this new well. The Champion International C No. 4 well was drilled to a total depth of 14,325 ft and was completed in the upper Woodbine formation through perforations from 14,074-14,200 ft. The well tested at 7 MMcfd and 708 b/d of condensate, flowing on a 22/64-in. choke at 3,300 psi flowing tubing pressure. Comstock owns a 63% working interest in and is the operator of this well.
