Partners in a liquefied natural gas plant in Trinidad have selected a proprietary technology belonging to Phillips Petroleum Co., Bartlesville, Okla., for use on two trains to be added to the plant, said Phillips. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Atlantic LNG Co. of Trinidad and Tobago operates the facility, in which BG International, BP, and Spain's Repsol-YPF SA are the three major shareholders.
The original LNG train at the complex also uses Phillips' proprietary LNG technology. Train 1 produces 3 million tonnes/year of LNG, while Trains 2 and 3 will produce 3.3 million tonnes/year each.
The first LNG train recently completed 16 months of operation. US-based Bechtel Corp. will carry out engineering and construction of Trains 2 and 3. Bechtel also engineered and built the Trinidad Train 1 facilities.
In 1996, Phillips and Bechtel formed an alliance aimed at expanding their roles in worldwide LNG markets. The two companies are currently evaluating several projects in the Middle and Far East, said Phillips.
