LONDONTalisman Energy UK Ltd., the North Sea E&P arm of Canada's Talisman Energy Inc., has made a new oil discovery not far from its Clyde field. The North Leven prospect, spudded from the Clyde platform via the 30/17b-A32 extended-reach well, tested at a maximum rate of 12,080 b/d of 39 API crude. The well is current producing some 10,00 b/d through the Clyde facilities.

The discovery, according to Talisman Chief Executive Officer Dr Jim Buckee, is "another example of Talisman's strategy in the North Sea: focused exploration in our core operated areas around our existing infrastructure," allowing the independent to "add reserves at very low finding and development costs and to bring these reserves into production quickly."

North Leven well is expected to bring an additional 4 million bbl of oil reserves onstream, with a potential for another 4 million bbl through "further development drilling," said Talisman.
