Gulf Canada Resources Ltd., Calgary, on Tuesday announced two natural gas discoveries, one located in the P9 block in the Dutch sector of the North Sea and the second in Canada.
Off the Netherlands, the P9-9 well flowed at an unstimulated test rate of 11 MMcfd of gas from a 10-m perforated interval. This is the second discovery among a number of prospects identified by Gulf and partners on a 516 sq km 3D seismic survey.
The find is 10 km from Gulf-operated pipeline and processing facilities. A production license has already been granted for this block.
Gulf Canada, on behalf of the P9-9 group, is reviewing development options for this discovery. The rig has been moved to the P6 block, where it will be drilling a follow-up well to the P6-9 discovery announced earlier this year.
Gulf Canada holds a 56.4% interest in this well through its wholly owned subsidiary Clyde Petroleum Exploratie BV. Partners in the P9-9 well include Erdol-Erdgas Gommern Netherlands BV, 19.9%; Dyas BV, 19%; and Holland Sea Search BV, 4.7%.
In the Musreau region of northwestern Alberta, Gulf Canada has started production from the Chicken 3-21 discovery. The Chicken 3-21-61-7w6 well, drilled to 5,034 m TD, has been tested and tied into a nearby gas processing plant and is producing 11 MMcfd of gas.
Gulf is the operator of the Chicken 3-21 field and holds a 60% working interest.
