Norwegian company ProSafe ASA and Schlumberger Oilfield Services, a unit of Schlumberger Ltd., New York, have entered into a cooperation agreement for well intervention on subsea wells. ProSafe and Schlumberger will form a joint integrated operational unit that will offer services related to maintenance of subsea wells, including cable operations, coiled tubing, cementing, pumping, well control, and well testing. ProSafe will use the MSV Regalia semisubmersible multiservice rig. Cooperative work should begin in the autumn of 2001.
Greka Energy Corp., New York, said Tuesday it's successfully recompleted three wells during the third quarter 2000 in its ongoing workover operation in Potash field, Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. The 3,000-acre salt dome oil and natural gas field is producing 7.5 MMcfd of gas and 200 b/d of oil�a 750% increase in gas production from yearend 1999. Greka operates the field and has 100% working interest in its 23 wells. The company plans to work over another three wells before year'end and expects to achieve 10 MMcfd of gas and 500 b/d of oil. It also has identified four new locations within the dome for drilling in 2001.
Unocal Thailand Ltd., a subsidiary of Unocal Corp., has issued a letter of intent to Smedvig Asia Ltd., a unit of Smedvig ASA, Stavanger, for the assignment of the T-4 self-erecting tender drilling rig for 1 year plus the option to extend the contract another year. The contract value for the firm period is estimated at $13.5 million. T-4 is working under a drilling contract for Unocal Thailand until the end of January 2001. Thereafter, the rig is scheduled for a 6-week classification survey before it starts up under the new contract in late March 2001.
