Remington Oil & Gas Corp., Dallas, Tex., said Tuesday a new discovery in which it participated has tested at more than 2,400 b/d of oil. Remington also updated other operational activities.
Production casing was set at total depth of 17,125 ft in the West Cameron 170 A-6 well in the Gulf of Mexico, which found more than 150 ft of true vertical thickness oil and gas pay in three sands. The lowest sand interval tested 2,429 b/d of oil and 5 MMcfd of gas on a 16/64-in. choke with a flowing tubing pressure of 7,525 psi. Production from the well is expected to begin by the end of this month.
Drilling operations continue on the West Cameron 170 No. 3 well, which is currently at 14,408 ft with anticipated total depth of 16,465 ft.
Remington owns a 20% working interest in the A-6 well and a 42 % working interest in the No. 3 well. CXY Energy Offshore Inc. operates both wells and owns 78% and 56% working interest in the A-6 and No. 3 well respectively.
Remington also participated in a new oil discovery on East Cameron block 345. The well logged 30 ft of oil pay below 8,000 ft. It will be temporarily abandoned awaiting platform installation, after which additional drilling will take place. The rig used to drill this well will be moved to Eugene Island 397 to drill a 10,227-ft exploratory well, said Remington, which holds 37.5% working interest in both wells. Operator W&T Offshore Inc. holds 50% and is the operator.
Also in the Gulf of Mexico, drilling operations at East Cameron 305 were halted after finding an abnormally pressured sand at 3,300 ft. The well was abandoned. Remington plans to re-drill the prospect. The drilling rig was moved to High Island A-441 prospect and is currently drilling toward a 8,700 ft total depth. Remington operates both projects with a 75% interest.
On Eugene Island Block 135, operations have been suspended on the A-3 well due to completion problems. The drilling unit will now begin drilling the A-4 development well. Remington owns a 15% working interest in both wells.
Onshore, Remington has set production casing on the Crosby 5-2 No. 1 (Eminence Dome Prospect) exploratory well located in Covington County, Miss. Logs on this 18,400-ft well indicate several potential oil bearing sands in the lower Hosston and Cotton Valley stratigraphic intervals, said Remington, which owns a 20% working interest in this well. The company has also begun drilling operations on an 18,500-ft exploratory well at Southwest Kola Prospect (Pickering No. 1) located in Covington County, Miss. Remington operates this well with a 40% working interest.
In South Texas, Remington has recently drilled two apparent gas discoveries in Nueces County. The Charba No. 1 well, drilled to 10,500 ft, logged 40 ft of net gas pay in three sands. Remington owns a 25% working interest in the Charba well.
The Miller No. 1 well, located in the Riverside Prospect area, logged 43 ft of gas pay in two sands. The company owns a 20% working interest in the Miller No. 1. Both wells are expected to be completed and on production by November 2000.
Remington is currently drilling two exploratory wells in Nueces County and expects to participate in six additional exploratory wells in the South Texas area this year.
