Operator Kerr-McGee Corp., Oklahoma City, on Friday said CFD 12-1-2 well, an appraisal well of the CFD 12-1 discovery on block 05/36 in Bohai Bay, China, tested more than 2,700 b/d of 26-34 gravity oil.

The 6,896-ft appraisal well, located 1.7 miles west-northwest of the discovery well in 90 ft of water, encountered oil within the Minghauzhen and Guantao sands. The initial field discovery well, the CFD 12-1 No. 1, tested 2,562 b/d of 34 gravity oil.

Robert E. Rigney, chairman and CEO of Pendaries Petroleum Ltd., a partner in the well, said the volume of oil found in the CFD 12-1 No. 2 well extends the partners' successful drilling program on blocks 05/36 and 04/36. "We look forward to the results of the 3D seismic program to define further our several discoveries,'' Rigney added.

A 3D seismic survey covering 810 sq km is expected to begin later this month over the CFD 12-1 and CFD 11-1 fields, as well as adjacent exploration prospects.

Additional appraisal and exploration drilling on adjacent prospects will be conducted in 2001. The CFD 12-1 field is located 10 miles east of the CFD 11-1 field, located on block 04/36.
