Duke Energy Field Services LLC, Denver, said Monday it will more than double capacity at its Roggen natural gas processing plant northeast of Denver from 25 MMcf/day to 55 MMcfd.

Engineering design and equipment procurement for the Roggen plant expansion are under way. Construction will begin in the third quarter, with start-up expected in December.

A statement from Duke Energy said the upgrade will increase available capacity needed to handle rapidly rising gas supplies due to increased drilling activity and technology improvements to extract existing proven gas reserves in the Denver-Julesburg basin of Colorado. The company expects that daily gas volumes delivered to the Roggen plant will reach nearly 55 MMcfd within the next year.

Natural gas liquids production from the plant is expected to increase to more than 4,300 b/d from 2,100 b/d. NGLs produced at the Roggen plant will be delivered into Phillips Pipe Line Co.'s NGL pipeline, which runs from the Powder River basin of Wyoming to the Texas Panhandle.
