Formosa unit shifts focus to petrochemicals

Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp., a member of Taiwan�s Formosa Plastics Group, has announced that it will switch the focus of its operations from the manufacture of textile materials to the production of petrochemicals.


TAIPEI�Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp. (FCF), a member of Taiwan�s Formosa Plastics Group, has announced that it will switch the focus of its operations from the manufacture of textile materials to the production of petrochemicals.

In keeping with the announced change in operations, FCF has started commercial production of the first phase of its aromatic hydrocarbon plant at FPG�s new petrochemical complex. Phase 1 has a production capacity of 460,000 tonnes/year of aromatic hydrocarbons. Phase 2, now in development, will add another 1.2 million tonnes/year to the company�s production capacity.

FCF also operates three purified terephthalic acid plants with a combined total production capacity of 1.26 million tonnes/year and a styrene monomer production facility with a capacity of 550,000 tonnes/year. The firm is nearing completion of a 300,000 tonne/year polypropylene complex.

In addition, FCF plans to expand production of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene and polystyrene.
