BEIJING�State-owned China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) has announced plans to spend 3 billion yuan this year to build an ammonia-urea plant on China's Hainan Island.
The plant will be designed to produce 450,000 tonnes/year of ammonia and 800,000 tonnes/year of urea. Construction will begin at Dongfang, Hainan, at the end of this year. Project completion is slated for late 2003.
The Hainan government owns and operates a gas-based fertilizer plant at Dongfang. The plant produces 300,000 tonnes/year of ammonia and 520,000 tonnes/year of urea. The plant is supplied by gas from CNOOC and BP Amoco PLC�s Yacheng 13-1 gas field in the South China Sea.
Meanwhile, CNOOC has earmarked 5 billion yuan for exploration and development activities in the next 3 years at Dongfang gas field in the Yinggehai basin of the South China Sea.
