Jade field operator Phillips Petroleum Co. awarded Cormon Ltd. a contract to supply an integrated corrosion monitoring and management information system for the North Sea development project. The system will monitor corrosion and sand production rates on the new unmanned Jade platform and corrosion rates at two locations on the subsea multiphase hydrocarbon pipeline to the existing Judy field production platform. Additional sensors will be installed at Judy to monitor the Jade production stream. Jade field is on Block 30/2c in 80 m of water in the UK North Sea (OGJ, Jan. 24, 2000, p. 30). The field, expected to reach peak production of 188 MMcfd of gas and 16,000 b/d of oil, is slated to come on stream in fourth quarter 2001. Operator Phillips holds a 32.5% interest in Jade. Other owners are BG International Ltd. (35%), Texaco North Sea UK Co. (19.93%), Agip (UK) Ltd. (7%), and OMV (UK) Ltd. (5.57%).
Pride International, Inc., Houston, reported the newly-built drillship Pride Angola has begun operations off Angola for Elf Exploration Angola under a 3-year contract. The Pride Angola is an ultradeepwater drillship capable of operating in water depths of up to 10,000 ft. The Pride Africa, a sister ship, is currently in South Africa completing testing prior to redeployment to Elf to work off Angola for an initial term of 5 years. Both the Pride Angola and the Pride Africa are owned and operated by a joint venture of Pride and Sociedade Nacional de Combustiveis de Angola (Sonangol), the state-owned oil company of Angola. Pride owns 51% of the venture.
