BP Amoco PLC said it has made a third discovery on the prolific Block 18 off Angola. On test, Galio-1 flowed 4,770 b/d of 34 gravity crude.
Galio-1 was drilled 185 km off Angola's coast in 1,238 m water depth. Block operator BP Amoco said work to evaluate the accumulation is continuing.
This is the company's third Block 18 discovery with as many wells. The previous two were made in 1999. Platina, drilled in 1,400 m of water, flowed 6,500 b/d of oil on test. Plutonio, drilled in 1,362 m of water, flowed 5,700 b/d of oil.
BP Amoco said, if it develops the Block 18 finds, it would expect to achieve first oil in about 4 years.
BP Amoco subsidiary Amoco Angola BV holds 50% of Block 18, and Royal Dutch/Shell Group unit Shell Development Angola BV holds the remaining interest.
