BP Amoco PLC has awarded a $12 million offshore design engineering contract to Mustang Engineering Inc., Houston, for work on the Crazy Horse and Holstein oil and gas developments in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Mustang will provide preliminary topsides design and project services for the deepwater project. The discoveries were announced by BP Amoco in July 1999 (OGJ, July 19, 1999, Newsletter).
Crazy Horse, in 6,000 ft of water about 125 miles southeast of New Orleans, is believed to be the largest discovery made in the gulf, with an estimated 1 billion bbl of recoverable oil. Holstein, in 4,400 ft of water, is one of three discoveries in the southern Green Canyon area that are believed to hold a combined 600 million bbl of additional reserves.
BP Amoco is operator of both fields. ExxonMobil Corp. owns a 25% interest in Crazy Horse, and Shell Oil Co. holds a 50% interest in Holstein.
