Major gas projects fuel surge in long-term plans

Long-term, worldwide plans for oil and natural gas pipelines jumped over the past year in evidence that operators may be responding to anticipated production increases which are in turn a response to unexpectedly strong prices since mid- 1999.Pipeline operators expect to install more than 52,000 miles of pipeline beginning this year and extending as far out as 2010.
