Shell Exploration & Production Co.'s Brutus tension-leg-platform (TLP) hull departed Daewoo Corp.'s fabrication yards near Okpo, South Korea, on Dec. 7, 2000, for a 2-month journey to Aker Maritime ASA's yard near Ingleside, Tex.

At Ingleside, the hull will be integrated with the topsides modules being fabricated at McDermott International Inc.'s Amelia, La., yard.

Shell plans to install the completed TLP during summer 2001 in 2,985-ft water in Green Canyon Block 158.

The eight-slot TLP, the fifth for Shell in the Gulf of Mexico, will produce from the Brutus discovery in Green Canyon Blocks 158 and 202.

Pipelines installed

J. Ray McDermott, a unit of McDermott International Inc., has already laid a 20-in., 24-mile pipeline from the Amberjack System in South Timbalier Block 301 to the Brutus site in Green Canyon Block 158.

Additionally, a 20-in. diameter natural gas pipeline will be laid about 23 miles from the Manta Ray Offshore Gathering System in Ship Shoal Block 332 to Green Canyon Block 158.

Shell expects production from the $900 million Brutus project to start in late 2001, reaching a peak capacity of about 100,000 bo/d and 150 MMcfd of gas.

It estimates an ultimate recovery of 200 million boe (70:30 oil-to-gas ratio).
