Houston, has announced agreements to purchase the Johnson Screens division of Vivendi Environnement, and the Optical Sensing Systems (OSS) unit of Cidra Corp.

Johnson Screens is a global provider of screens for fluid-solid separation processes, and operates 21 manufacturing facilities in 14 countries, providing coverage of the oil and gas, petrochemical, and other process industries. Current Johnson technology emphasis includes intelligent completion applications.

Cidra OSS technologies consist of pressure temperature gauges, flow and phase fraction systems, as well as an all-fiber in-well seismic system.

Both acquisitions will be integrated within Weatherford's Completion Systems division.

Weatherford International Inc. is a global provider of technology, services, and solutions for the drilling and production sectors of the oil and gas industry. Weatherford operates in more than 100 countries, and employs approximately 13,000 people.

EDG Inc. Consulting Engineers And Albert-Garaudy & Associates Inc.

Houston, have announced a joint venture to provide project management, construction management, and engineering services on capital oil and gas facilities projects. The alliance, named Fre-o Facilities Group, combines onshore and offshore capabilities of the two independent engineering consulting companies to align services with the global production needs of major oil and gas operators.

Fre-o Facilities Group specializes in front-end development of oil and gas facilities. Paul Mogabgab, president of EDG, and Glenn Garaudy, COO of AGA, will direct Fre-o's efforts.

Grant Prideco

Houston, has announced the appointment of Curtis D. Burton as president, Marine Products & Services Division; Dan M. Latham as president, Drill Stem Products Division; Marshall E. Danby as president, Premium Connections & Tubular Products Division; and William G. Chunn as corporate executive vice-president.

Burton, who has over 20 years of deepwater drilling and production engineering and management experience, earned his BSME from the University of Texas.

Latham joined Grant Prideco in 1980 and served most recently as vice-president, sales and marketing.

Danby has more than 30 years of industry experience, and has served as president/general manager of Grant Prideco's industrial drilling products subsidiary since joining the company in late 2000.

Chunn has held various senior executive positions in the drill stem products industry for some 30 years before accepting his current appointment.

Grant Prideco is a leading supplier of drill stem technology development and drill pipe manufacturing, sales and service, as well as supplying engineered connections and premium tubulars in North America.

Hunting

Houston, has announced its acquisition of Thread Tech Energy Systems Ltd., a Calgary-based supplier of oil field tubulars, premium connections, and associated products throughout Canada. Elmer Campbell will remain as president of the new operating unit, Hunting Thread Tech.

Houston-based Hunting is a vertically integrated tubular system supplier, with partnerships and subsidiaries operating throughout the world.

UOP LLC

Des Plaines, Ill., has named Graeme H.H. Donald as president and CEO. Donald had served most recently as vice-president and general manager of Honeywell's global performance fibers business. He holds a degree in chemistry and mathematics from Edinburgh University, and previously spent 22 years in various leadership roles with Engelhard Corp.

UOP LLC is a leading supplier and licensor of process technology, catalysts, adsorbents, process plants, and technical services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries.

Bouygues Offshore

Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France, has named Hervé Le Bouc as chairman, and Jacques Léost as chief executive officer. Le Bouc will also serve as chairman of ETDE, Bouygues Construction's electrical contracting and networks subsidiary.

Le Bouc, who joined Bouygues Offshore in 1989, has held senior executive positions with the company prior to his current appointment.

Léost has been with Bouygues Offshore since 1976, most recently serving as managing director and chief operating officer.

Bouygues Offshore is a provider of turnkey projects from design engineering to start-up and maintenance in offshore-onshore oil and gas contracting, liquefied gases, maritime and river works, and chemicals-refining/energy industry.

Dallas, has presented its Chief Roughneck award for 2001 to Dallas oilman James Cleo Thompson Jr. The lifetime achievement award, presented annually since 1955, was announced at this year's meeting of the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA).

Thompson is managing general partner of J. Cleo Thompson & James Cleo Thompson Jr. partnership, president and chairman of the board of Thompson Petroleum Corp., president and chief executive officer of Ozona Pipeline Energy Co., and president and chairman of the board of Crockett Gas Processing Co.

Lone Star Steel Co. is a leading manufacturer and marketer of oil field casing, tubing, line pipe, precision specialty tubing products, flat rolled steel, and other tubular products and services. The company instituted the Chief Roughneck award to recognize those who have given a lifetime of commitment, with perseverance and courage, to the industry.
