Time to fight Sierra Club

Nov. 19, 2001
We cannot continue to chase the politically correct and scientifically vacuous ideas of the Sierra Club forever.

We cannot continue to chase the politically correct and scientifically vacuous ideas of the Sierra Club forever. Although we all want a clean world, the cost to reach ever-cleaner standards is suspect as a realistic target.

Mr. Becker (OGJ, Oct. 29, 2001, p. 10) must look at the energy cost to achieve higher standards. It is now about 20% of all energy used. No pollution will take close to 100%+ if entropy laws are correct. I totally disagree with his assessment of nuclear energy not being a viable long-term solution.

I'm certain we can find reasonable waste-handling solutions if we leave the unreasonable out of the discussion.

I do not see the Sierra Club as having a serious interest in reasonable solutions. I see them as another in a long line of anticapitalist leftist institutions that we should fight. Any visit to their web site is enough to give fits to thinking people. From Sierra Club concepts such as population densities of 500 families/acre (they changed it arbitrarily to 100 after the folly of 500 was pointed out to them), to misstated pollution statistics for Alaska, their push is anti-industry and anticapitalist. Industry should challenge them at every chance, and take them to court on every lie.

When and if Mr. Becker and his crew...come to negotiate and compromise in good faith, then take them seriously.
