PERSONNEL MOVES AND PROMOTIONS: Conoco promotes executive, adds director

Philip L. Frederickson has been promoted to senior vice-president, corporate strategy and business development. Frederickson has served as vice-president, business development, since 1998.

In addition, Conoco elected Richard H. Auchinleck to the company's board, bringing to 10 the number of members sitting on its board.

Before Conoco acquired Gulf Canada Resources Ltd., Auchinleck served as president and CEO of the Calgary-based firm, which he joined in 1976.

Other moves

Thomas M. Gladney has been named senior vice-president of operations for Houston-based Plains Resources Inc.

Previously, Gladney was president of Plains Resources subsidiary Arguello Inc. He came to Plains Resources in 1999 from Oryx Energy Co., Dallas.

Jim G. Hester was promoted to senior vice-president, special projects. He has been senior vice-president of operations since May 2001. Previously, he was vice-president of business development and acquisitions. Hester joined Plains Resources in 1988.

Wiser Oil Co., Dallas, has appointed Matthew A. Eagleston vice-president, production; Robert Kerian, vice-president, exploration; and W.B. Phillips, vice-president, land.

Eagleston joined Wiser in 1995 as a project engineer and was promoted to production manager in 2000. He will oversee all of Wiser's US drilling and production activities.

Kerian will oversee the company's US exploration operations. He joined Wiser in 1996 as a senior geophysicist. He was promoted to exploration manager in late 1999.

Phillips has served as Wiser land manager since late 1990.

Houston Exploration Co. has created onshore and offshore operating divisions to function as strategic business units for the company's oil and gas operations.

Steve Mueller will join the Houston-based independent as senior vice-president and general manager of the onshore division. Most recently, Mueller was senior vice-president, exploration and production, at Belco Oil and Gas Co., New York.

His previous positions included management and engineering jobs with American Exploration Co. and Tenneco Oil Co., both of Houston.

Charles Adcock, senior vice-president, operations and engineering, will serve as senior vice-president and general manager of the offshore division.

Downstream moves

Petroleo Brasileiro SA has appointed Rogério Manso director, downstream, and João Batista, chief financial officer. Batista replaces Ronnie Vaz Moreira, who worked for Petrobras for 2 years. Most recently, Batista served as executive director of Dresdner Bank in Brazil.

Manso replaces Albano Gonçalves, who has retired after working 33 years at the Brazilian state oil firm. Manso has worked for Petrobras since 1979.

Pequiven, the petrochemical subsidiary of Venezuela's state oil firm Petroleos de Venezuela SA has appointed Jose Paz president and Maria Elizabeth Lizardo vice-president.

A chemical engineer, Paz has served as Pequiven's vice-president since 2000.

Lizardo, who has served on the Pequiven board since 1999, also serves as a chemical engineer with experience in the oil sector. She joined Pequiven in 1985 and in 1997 was made general manager of Pequiven's joint venture, SuperOctanos MTBE, and has been president of the Conoco-PDVSA heavy oil project joint venture Petrozuata.
