Houston, has acquired Protectores del Golfo, a Veracruz, Mexico-based manufacturer of oil field plastic, metal, and composite thread protectors. The facility in Mexico will continue to operate and will provide MSI with a foothold in the growing Mexican and South American markets.

This acquisition follows MSI's acquisition last year of Frontier Supply in Nisku, Alta., Canada.

MSI Products, whose core business is the manufacture of thread protectors for the oil country tubular market, is a division of Alliance Plastics, Erie, Pa.

Alliance Plastics is a division of UK-based Bunzl plc.

Koch-Glitsch Inc.

Parsippany, N.J., has announced the sale of its Koch Extraction Technologies' (formerly known as Glitsch Process Systems Inc.) small custom hydrogen plant business to Panamerican Enterprises, Inc., Brownsville, Tex. Panamerican is combining the acquired technology with its existing technology in a new division, PKG Hydrogen Processing Technologies.

Panamerican Enterprises, Inc., founded in 1982, is a supplier of hydrogen plant technology focusing on the engineering, manufacture, and service of small to medium hydrogen generating plants.

Koch-Glitsch is part of Koch's Chemical Technology Group, which specializes in designing, manufacturing, and marketing equipment and services to many processing industries worldwide.

Louisiana Valve Source Inc.

Lafayette, La., has announced the appointment of Brian D. Wooley to its sales staff. Wooley, who has over 16 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, will be responsible for outside sales in the Gulf Coast area including regions of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Louisiana Valve Source Inc. is a valve reconditioning company.

Schlumberger Oilfield Services

Houston, has announced its acquisition of Kavernen Bau und Betriebs GMBH (KBB) from the Preussag Group. KBB's primary expertise is in engineering, construction, and project management of facilities for underground storage of natural gas in salt domes, aquifer structures, and depleted oil and gas reservoirs, including associated salt leaching, gas compression, and gas treatment facilities on the surface. Schlumberger will use the acquisition to expand its range of services to the deregulated gas market.

Schlumberger Oilfield Services is a global supplier of services and technology to the international petroleum industry.

Petris Technology Inc. and GeoNet Services Inc.

Houston, have merged to form Petris-GeoNet. Jim Pritchett, president and CEO of Petris, will remain as CEO of the new firm. Pat Herbert, chairman and CEO of GeoNet will become COO.

The combined company will link the application integration and data management capabilities of Petris with the delivery of a variety of industry specific software programs from GeoNet.

PGS Production Services

Methven, Mallan, Bullock

Aberdeen, has appointed Steve Bullock as director, operations support; Paddy Mallan as director, engineering and construction; and John Methven as director, operations management. The appointments follow from the recent acquisition of Joint Venture International (JVI).

Bullock will be responsible for PGS Production Services' UK operations support contracts and the company's expanding business in the Far East.

Mallan will be responsible for the company's onshore and offshore engineering and construction contracts in the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors in the UK.

Methven will be responsible for the company's managed offshore production services in the North Sea.

PGS Production Services is a provider of operations management solutions, maintenance, engineering and construction services to the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. The company is part of Petroleum Geo-Services, headquartered in Oslo and Houston.

Coflexip Stena Offshore

Paris, announced that Genesis, one of its UK affiliates, is expanding to Paris. Genesis Oil & Gas Consultants is an engineering consulting company providing a wide range of services, encompassing conceptual engineering and field development planning, safety and risk management, engineering and design, product management, and business consultancy.

Genesis France will offer the same range of engineering consultancy services to the French oil and gas industry as Genesis UK does in London and Aberdeen. The Genesis France team will be managed by Jean-Pascal Biaggi, vice-president.

Coflexip Stena Offshore is a global contractor for subsea and deepwater solutions to the offshore oil and gas industry. The CSO Group employs approximately 8,200 on five continents, with subsidiaries in Angola, Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, India, Nigeria, Norway, Russia, Singapore, the UK and US.

The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG)

Tulsa, will celebrate the opening of its Geoscience Center at world headquarters October 11. The date was chosen to coincide with the international observance of Earth Science Week. Sponsored by the SEG Foundation, the objective of the Geoscience Center is to spark the curiosity of students by challenging them to come "See inside the Earth."

Included in the Center will be interactive exhibits, historical instruments, and invention exhibits geared to promote interest in the study and applications of geophysics.

Because SEG is a global professional society of 17,000 members who live and work in 110 countries, the Geoscience Center has career and vocational information from all over the world.
