New edition of intrinsic safety handbook

New edition of intrinsic safety handbook

The latest edition of this company's intrinsic safety (IS) handbook offers process engineers the dos and don'ts of selecting and implementing appropriate

IS approaches, surge protection systems, and distributed input-output technologies.

This edition offers new material including: intrinsically safe proximity sensors, new IS barriers and isolators,

IS solenoid valves, junction box-based wiring, and solutions for Fieldbus. The handbook's section on process input-output presents an easy-to-understand discussion of the benefits of intrinsically safe process input-output and its effect on better control of a range of processes and how you save money on wiring and associated costs. The new handbook also provides information on this firm's range of IS, input-output, surge, HART, and wiring products.

Information also is available on the company's web site: www.mtlnh.com.

Nonrotating drillpipe casing protectors

A new brochure and CD detail patented nonrotating drillpipe casing protectors.

The literature provides detailed information, including specifications, and torque and casing wear comparisons.

Protectors are field proved to reduce rotary torque as much as 50%, the company says.

The CD, which, with the aid of animation, shows how the product works downhole.

Coating used to reduce coking in refineries

Silcosteel has been developed as a way to improve the lifetime of refinery and petrochemical plant components that are at risk of coking. This firm says it can help make tubing, fittings, transfer components, reactors, and other parts resistant to carbon buildup.

The Silcosteel treatment is a thin-film coating process used in analytical chemistry. The coating is incorporated directly into the lattice of steel and similar alloys, making it a shield that passivates surface activity. The treatment is suited for applications involving the transfer of hydrocarbons, the company points out.

Software update helps keep an eye on equipment

New Maintainer software, version 2.002, is an updated information and record keeping service that focuses on equipment inspection, maintenance, and repair.

This version has new modules that allow users to help manage government compliance efforts. The latest modules are MMS 30 CFR (API-RP14c) for safety system compliance on oil and gas production platforms, and US Coast Guard streamlined inspection program, also for production platforms.

The service is in compliance with standards and practices as set by ABS, MMS (API-RP14c), NDT, and the US Coast Guard. The services also meet the standards set by the US Occupational Health and Safety Administration. Procedural demands, as defined by quality assurance programs, such as ISM and ISO 9000, are also satisfied, the company says.

Annulus valve detailed in free flyer

A new, free product flyer details the RODEC annulus valve.

The valve is designed for opening and closing the annular space between the casing and production tubing.

The flyer includes data such as application guidelines, operating concept, features and benefits, and specifications.

The valve is a permanent downhole component that requires no service rig to set and unset. It is actuated at the surface with any RODEC tubing rotator or surface actuator. The valve promises an effective means to selectively isolate and stimulate cyclic steam production wells that have multiple zones, the company points out.

The maker says its valve:

  • Enables singular zone isolation in multizone applications.
  • Reduces cost and frequency of zone stimulation.
  • Is suited for steam huff and puff wells.
  • Comes in all API tubing connection sizes.
  • Is rated for 653
