Software predicts surge pressure

Software predicts surge pressure

SurgeMOD, a new software package, is a surge and swab hydraulics model for drilling and completion.

The software allows you to design and analyze complex downhole hydraulics when running casing or liner or making a trip.

The software predicts surge pressures for these pipe end conditions: (1) closed, (2) open, (3) open with auto fill or bit, and (4) with flow diverter. The software is particularly suited for completions in deep water.

The Braden CH Series hoist is a new product lineup available for offshore crane operations.

The CH640A, rated at 64,000 lb, promises flexibility, serviceability, and reliability, the company says.

It features:

  • Large capacity drums that allow as much as 3,242 ft (988 m) of 11/4 in. wire rope storage.
  • An external drive system for quick access and serviceability.
  • A range of hydraulic motor displacements and gear options to help optimize performance.
  • Optional dual hydraulic motor inputs for high horsepower applications.
  • Easily accessible oil site glass and fill plug to ease maintenance.
  • Optional ratchet and pawl for boom hoist applications.

Sweep cleans deviated wellbores

Sweep-Wate is designed to replace conventional barite in high-density hole cleaning sweeps for deviated wellbores.

Since the new drilling fluid product is removed by the shale shaker, the cost of handling weighted sweeps on the surface is saved and virtually no effect is seen on the active drilling system's long-term properties, the developer says.

The Sweep-Wate product mixes in the same manner as conventional barite and can be used in sweep applications and slugs. As the sweep is displaced around the wellbore, it helps disturb, lift up, and clean the existing cuttings bed out of the hole by its increased buoyancy.

The company says its product mixes in the same manner as conventional barite, is easily used in sweep applications and slugs, and is readily removed by rig shakers.

Free gear drive catalog

A new 8 page catalog describes this firm's gear drive capabilities. The free catalog highlights a line of standard gearmotors and speed reducers.

Marketed under Browning, Morse, and US Gearmotor brands, this company provides worm, helical, bevel, spiral bevel, spur, and combination gearboxes.

The company builds speed reducers to almost any gear ratio and load capacity. Speedy phototyping, 3D modeling, extensive R&D, and test facilities help shorten the customers "time to market."

Available engineering services, key technical resources, and eCommerce capabilities are also detailed in the catalog.

Sealless magnetic drive pumps

A free technical bulletin discusses MP/MPL and MPT Series sealless magnetic drive pumps.

These close-coupled pumps handle low-flow, high-head applications. The 4 page bulletin includes photographs, illustrations, and detailed information on product design, features, benefits, performance, and applications.

Pumps feature rare earth Neodymium magnets for synchronous drive with no slippage and less internal heat than other mag-drive pumps, the bulletin says.

The new VHP Series Four L5774LT gas engine is designed specifically for gas compression applications.

The 12 cylinder gaseous-fueled engine has a special rating of 1,250 hp at 1,200 rpm, which leads to a projected 30,000 hr top end overhaul life and reliable performance without the need for detonation sensors, the company points out.

Cylinder heads feature increases in combustion turbulence and breathing improvements. Open-chamber combustion allows higher power output and lower maintenance, the firm notes.
