The political furor that has erupted over proposals to allow exploration and development on the coastal plain of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge soon will reach fever pitch.At stake is perhaps the whole of President George Bush's energy policy, of which ANWR coastal plain leasing has been described as a centerpiece.In support of that initiative, energy policy legislation has been introduced in the US Senate and House that would implement a program of ANWR coastal plain oil and gas leasing.
