Des Plaines, Ill., has named Carlos Cabrera senior vice-president of refining and petrochemicals, combining these previously separate business units into one.

Des Plaines, Ill., has named Carlos Cabrera senior vice-president of refining and petrochemicals, combining these previously separate business units into one.

Cabrera has been with UOP since 1973, most recently as vice-president for business development and ventures. He previously served as vice-president for refining.

UOP LLC is a leading international supplier and licensor of process technology, catalysts, adsorbents, process plants, and technical services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries.

London, has appointed Dennis Proctor chief executive. Proctor has been with Hunting Oilfield Services since 1993, when it acquired Interlock Technologies, where he was president. Ken Miller, formerly chief executive, will now serve as Hunting PLC's deputy chairman until his retirement later in 2001.

Proctor holds a business degree from the University of Houston. He is a director of the Petroleum Equip-ment Suppliers Association, Independence Bank of Houston, and Conemsco.

Hunting PLC currently consists of two operating divisions: defense and oil. Its oil interests include Hunting Oilfield Services International, Gibson Petroleum Canada, Tenkay Resources, and Hunting Petroleum France.

Bestolife Corp. and Bardahl Lubricantes Argentina

announced the signing of an agreement whereby Bardahl Lubricantes Argentina will manufacture and distri-bute Bestolife thread compounds in South America.

Bestolife Corp., based in Dallas, has manufactured products for over 70 years and is a leader in the oil field thread compound market.

Bardahl Lubricantes Argentina SA, Buenos Aires, has supplied products to the automotive and industrial market for over 45 years.

Enraf and FCI Environmental

recently announced formation of a global strategic alliance for marketing the PetroSense continuous leak detection monitoring system. The alliance combines Enraf's tank gauging instrumentation with FCI Environmental's environmental protection systems. The end result is a cost-effective single system solution combining tank farm inventory management with environmental protection.

Enraf BV, Delft, The Netherlands, manufactures a complete line of precise tank gauging instruments and systems.

FCI Environmental Inc., Las Vegas, Nev., provides industry with leading-edge lead detection and environmental protection systems.

Parkans International LLC

Houston, has announced its name change to Recycalyst Technologies Corp. (RTC) Kirk Weaver, president, explained that Recycalyst is a coined word reflecting two important parts of RTC's business: recycling and catalysts. The company produces metal oxides and recycles metal-bearing materials, primarily used catalysts.

RTC also announced the election of Jeff Tange to the position of vice-president and Tiffani Claussen to the position of controller.

Tange holds an engineering degree from Montana Tech, and has been with RTC since 1996. Claussen, a CPA, joined RTC in June 2000.

PII North America Inc.

Houston, has promoted Tom Sawyer to vice-president of sales, Ravi Krishnamurthy to vice-president of total pipeline integrity, and Gunnar Kopp to vice-president of business development.

Sawyer has over 12 years of experience in technical sales and marketing in pipeline inspection services and petrochemicals, having worked for Keane Canada, BJ Pipeline Inspec-tion Services, and TransCanada PipeLines. He holds a BS in engineering chemistry from Queen's University in Kingston, Ont., Canada.

Krishnamurthy came to PII from Mobil Oil Corp., where he was mainly involved in the areas of corrosion control and integrity management support. He received his MS degree from Florida Atlantic University and PhD in material science from the University of Virginia.

Kopp came to PII when it merged with Pipetronix, where he served most recently as general manager, Latin America, for Pipetronix GmbH, and president of Pipetronix S.A. de C.V. in Mexico City. He completed studies in computer science and business at Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen/Nürnberg, Bavaria, Germany, and holds the degree of diplom-Kaufmann (MBA) in management and marketing.
