Shell Exploration & Production Co., Houston, formed a joint venture with Wolverine Gas & Oil Corp., Grand Rapids, Mich., in the Pacific Creek area of southwestern Wyoming.

Shell, fresh from losing out in a bid to acquire Barrett Resources Corp., Denver, and Barrett's significant Rocky Mountain properties, acquired a 70% interest in nearly 120,000 acres of mostly federal lands held by Wolverine along the Emigrant Trail. First drilling could occur in third quarter 2001.

J.P. Land Associates Inc., Houston, completed a speculative airborne micromagnetic reconnaissance of a 2,500 sq mile sector of the Rio Grande embayment.

The study involves the profile analysis of 5,500 line miles of data acquired on a 0.5 x 5 mile grid at a flight level of 500 ft above sea level and covers eastern Starr County, southern Willacy County, and all of Cameron and Hidalgo counties.

Magnetic prospect leads are ready for evaluation by surface geochemistry for proof of the presence of hydrocarbon seepage. The fact that the magnetic data and prospect leads map are being offered on a nonexclusive basis is probably a first, said Land.
