PERSONNEL MOVES AND PROMOTIONS: Anadarko's Algerian unit appoints four new managers

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. plans to appoint two key personnel to the position of vice-president within its Anadarko Algeria Co. LLC unit.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. plans to appoint two key personnel to the position of vice-president within its Anadarko Algeria Co. LLC unit. These newly appointed managers will be based in Uxbridge, England.

Among the new appointments, Andy Harris has been named vice-president, operations, and will be responsible for the company's interest in Groupement Berkine-a company comanaged by Anadarko and Algerian state oil firm Sonatrach-which oversees the development and operation of 11 oil fields in Algeria's Berkine basin.

With 26 years of industry experience, Harris first joined Anadarko as an engineering manager for the Algeria project in 1994 and later transferred to the UK with the original team when the Uxbridge office was opened.

Also, Alan Gibbons has been named vice-president, finance. In this position, Gibbons will manage all Algerian and UK finance and accounting functions. Gibbons joined the Anadarko unit in October 1999 as a manager. He has 20 years of industry experience.

Other upstream moves

New Orleans-based McMoRan Exploration Co. has reorganized its management structure to better manage oil and natural gas exploration activities in the Gulf of Mexico.

The company said it will develop an office of the chairmen, which will be headed by two cochairmen: James R. Moffett and Richard C. Adkerson.

In their new positions, Moffett and Adkerson will direct the company's business activities: Moffett to focus on exploration and operational activities and Adkerson tocontinue as CEO and focus on financial and administrative activities.

In addition, the office of the chairmen will include B.M. Rankin Jr., serving as vice-chairman; C. Howard Murrish, serving as vice-chairman, exploration; and Glenn A. Kleinert, president and chief operating officer of McMoRan Oil & Gas LLC.

Gaurdie Banister Jr. has been named vice-president, business development and technology, of Shell Exploration & Production Co., Houston.

Banister in this new position will develop new business opportunities, acquisitions, implementation of new technologies, and strategic planning. Over the past 21 years, Banister has held a variety of exploration and production assignments in Houston, New Orleans, and California. In 1998, Banister was named vice-president, Americas, for Shell Services International and president for the gas and power division of Shell Service's global exploration and production unit.
