In new and retrofit applications, WORM flexible sensors for thermowell temperature assemblies replace straight sensor probes with a universal sensor strategy. Its flexible design installs in minutes, and it is available in RTD and thermocouple configurations. The WORM provides step response times 13% faster than standard, straight sensors, the company says.

It bends right through the top or face of the enclosure. It slides through the enclosure's entry port and snaps into place without removal of the enclosure, connection head, or any assembly components.

It trims to length (up to 36 in.) to handle most thermowell assemblies, the company says.

Trade management data sharing system

SolArc i.Link, a new web-based information exchange system, allows energy commodity trading partners and independent on line exchanges a direct, real-time interface to share transaction data from the trading and movement of crude, products, natural gas liquids, and coal. A single connection to the system creates back end integration with every participating on line exchange and trading company regardless of different legacy ERP and back end systems.

This information router system allows multiple companies using multiple trading systems to transact and share information directly from one company's computer system to other companies' computers. This electronic interface helps reduce duplication, eliminate opportunities for error, and deliver efficiency and cost improvements on a per transaction basis, the company says.

Plant alarm management system

LogMate 5.0 Suite is a newly released total plant alarm management system. LogMate for Windows 5.0 collects real-time data from virtually any logging device around a facility and makes it available in an open format to almost any client, even across the internet. The new suite was created to alleviate problems related to alarm management by providing a common interface to all control systems for monitoring, diagnosing, and reacting to alarm related problems.

The 5.0 suite is made up of five basic modules: Capture, View, netView, LogMatrix Analysis, and Signal Notification. The suite is modular, yet all the tools fit together as a single unit. LogMate is also scalable, as a user can start with the basic package and add the additional modules as needed.

Joint venture to market water-base drilling fluid

M-I LLC, Houston, and ActiSystems Inc., Edmond, Okla.,have formed MASI LLC, a joint venture that gives M-I joint ownership and exclusive marketing rights to the AphronICS invasion control fluid system.

The water-base drilling fluid system provides solids-free bridging with stabilized microbubble technology known as Aphrons. Once energized, Aphrons conform to cavities of any size or shape, creating a microbubble network that promises to effectively bridge downhole formation openings. The system is particularly effective in permeable sands, fractures, and vugular zones.

AphronICS is suited for mature and depleted reservoirs or in horizontal and high-angle wells where long sections of low-pressure openings are exposed.

In addition, it is effective in formations where lost-circulation material has proved ineffective in bridging large and extended openings.

The company points out that Aphron technology provides a viable economic alternative to the energy industry for continued development of depleted mature fields using conventional drilling methods. Along with improving the drilling process by minimizing deep invasion and stabilizing overpressured shales, this technology also helps reduce nonreversible formation damage and eliminate fines migration and whole mud losses.
