PERSONNEL MOVES AND PROMOTIONS: Perupetro names new president

May 14, 2001
Merger and acquisition activity among oil and gas companies has remained relatively heated in recent weeks.

Miguel Luis Ortigas has been named president of Perupetro SA. Ortigas fills the role following the resignation late last month of Rafael Samaniego, who served as president of the state oil firm since May 31, 2000.

Ortigas was president of the Camisea natural gas privatization committee until the contracts for the Camisea natural gas production and transport and distribution contracts were signed Dec. 9, 2000. He also until recently headed the Camisea committee that supervises the contracts.

The new appointment is reportedly part of the political changes that are being made by the interim government, and, according to unofficial reports, Samaniego may continue to work on projects that he has headed over the past year to turn around Peru's sluggish oil industry.
