New fixed cutter bit for hard rock drilling

The new Millennium Series fixed cutter bit is able to incorporate an advanced synthetic diamond technology to micro-shear the formation, achieving improved drilling optimization and faster rates of penetration in the full range of hard rock drilling.

The new diamond impregnation system is incorporated in the new bit. By incorporating this diamond backup design into proprietary whirl-resistant bit designs, the bit series technology pushes PDC bits into harder rock, from the top end of IADC code five series roller cone equivalent, into the six series drillable rock.

Diamond segments and disks are produced at a lower temperature, resulting in self-sharpening synthetic diamonds that are able to drill the tougher formations, the company notes. A double phase impregnation process is used that produces a self-sharpening cutting edge, as well as providing erosion and abrasive wear protection. Diamond impregnated cylinders trail the PDC cutters in a seamless direct extension; thus, when abrasive rock is encountered, PDC cutters wear down slightly and the diamond cylinders effect a microshearing action. As softer rock is reentered, the PDC cutters take over again until the next hard layer is encountered.

Bits can be customized for a variety of uses by varying the length of the backup row, the volume of diamond, and the range of matrix material that holds the diamond.

NeuraScanner, a portable and continuous log scanner, is designed to rapidly obtain raster log images. It was developed specifically for the exploration and production sector of the industry.

Slightly larger than a lap top computer, this is the newest component of the firm's product suite. The suite consists of NeuraLog, NeuraMap, NeuraSection, NeuraView, and now NeuraScanner. This complete set of tools provides scanning, automated digital conversion, data management, and geologic interpretation.

The suite provides a complete work flow solution to integrate and leverage existing information in paper and digital stores in any E&P system regardless of format and source.

Pricing, modeling, forecasting software

@ENERGY 2.0-now on the market-is a fully integrated set of derivative pricing, market modeling, and financial forecasting software tools.

The new software offers utilities, traders, and marketers of energy-related assets the tools to price energy and power transactions, to engineer protective hedging strategies, and to manage risks inherent in commodity and derivative portfolios.

With four market behavior models, including mean-reversion and jump-diffusion, @ENERGY 2.0 users are promised this firm's proved option pricing methodologies. The software includes extensive instrument coverage and, for better hedging, can return instrument exposures to the full risk curve. To help users better understand and analyze energy market behavior, the company has developed a simulation tool for @ENERGY 2.0 that allows users to dynamically visualize the effect of new model parameters on price paths and market assumptions.

With @ENERGY 2.0, users can specify two varying mean-reversion rates, price swing-straddle contracts with overall load constraints, and plot a forward power curve at 15 min intervals.

New wireline BOP ram

The Q-Guide is a new design wireline BOP ram capable of shutting off well pressure by guiding and sealing wireline typically entering the BOP at a nonparallel angle. The design is also capable of employing this firm's new multiline inner seal to allow switching between slick line, electric line, and fishing operations without having to change rams

On closure, the ram provides a positive alignment for the wireline. Special guides on either side of the inner seal restrict the wireline so that the section of line contacting the seal is always centered and parallel to the BOP axis.

The new multiline inner seal can be used with the Q-Guide to create a universal multiline ram. Although the line groove in the inner seal is sized for 5/16 in. line, the seal is able to seal around any line from 0.092 in. OD to 0.312 in. OD.
