PERSONNEL MOVES AND PROMOTIONS: Chevron, Texaco appoint executives to head merged firm

Chevron Corp. and Texaco Inc. have appointed several senior executives to lead their newly formed company, ChevronTexaco Corp., once the merger closes (OGJ, Oct. 23, 2000, p. 28).

Current Chevron Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dave O'Reilly will retain the same position for ChevronTexaco. Richard Matzke, Chevron vice-chairman, and Glenn Tilton, Texaco chairman and CEO, will each hold vice-chairman positions for the merged company. These three executive positions will make up the newly formed office of the chairman.

O'Reilly said that the new company is looking to gain $1.2 billion in synergies through the executive restructuring.

Three executive vice-presidents will report to the office of the chairman: downstream; power, chemicals, and technology; and administrative and corporate services. These positions will be held respectively by Patricia Woertz, Darry Callahan, and Greg Matiuk.

Ronald L. Mercer has been promoted to president of Aspen Group Resources Corp., Oklahoma City. Over the last year, Mercer served as Aspen's executive vice-president and chief operating officer. He will retain his role as the company's COO. Before joining Aspen, Mercer founded, developed, and sold Oklahoma Oil & Gas Management Inc., an oil and gas exploration firm with operations in Oklahoma and Kansas.

Michael B. Walen has been named senior vice-president of Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., Houston. In addition, Scott C. Schroeder has been named vice-president, chief financial officer, and treasurer for the company, while Henry "Chuck" Smyth was named to the positions of vice-president and controller.

Walen most recently served as vice-president and regional manager for the Gulf Coast. He has held various exploration positions since joining Cabot in 1987.

Schroeder has served as Cabot's vice-president and treasurer since 1998. Since joining the company, he has been treasurer and assistant treasurer.

Smyth became the company's controller in 1998 and has been with Cabot since 1994.

Kim R.W. Bennetts has been named vice-president, exploration, for Presco Inc., The Woodlands, Tex. Bennetts will oversee the company's exploration and development projects in the US and internationally. Bennetts previously held positions with Conoco Inc., Houston; Kriti Exploration Inc., Houston; Hugoton Energy Corp., Wichita, Kan.; and Preston Exploration Co. LP, The Woodlands, Tex.

Nancy W. Schultz and Guy G. Buckley have been named to supervise the development of Gulfstream Natural Gas System LLC's pipeline project. Schultz will serve as senior vice-president and general manager, technical functions, and Buckley will hold the position of senior vice-president and general manager, business functions.

Most recently, Schultz served as director, engineering, for Williams's gas pipeline unit. Buckley most recently served as vice-president, electric market and project developent for Duke Energy Gas Transmission. The 744-mile Gulfstream project-a joint development effort between Duke Energy Corp., Charlotte, NC, and Williams, Tulsa-will serve utilities and power generation facilities in Florida (see Newsletter, p. 8).

Dick Leehr has joined Portland Natural Gas Transmission System, Portsmouth, NH, as president. Prior to joining PNGTS, Leehr served as vice-president, Gulfstream operations, for Coastal Corp. unit ANR Pipeline Co. He held various positions with ANR since joining the unit in 1972.

Brian K. Ayers was incorrectly identified by Samson Lone Star as having worked with Texaco Inc. (OGJ, Feb. 12, 2001, p. 34). Ayers worked most recently with Coastal Oil & Gas Corp.
