Gas production began Feb. 6 from one well in the East Lost Hills area of California's San Joaquin basin, and the operator anticipated having as many as three other wells on line by mid-2001.

Berkley Petroleum Corp., Calgary, restricted Berkley 1 to 9.6 MMcfd of gas and 475 b/d of condensate at 13,300 psi flowing wellhead pressure during startup. Flow was to reach 13 MMcfd in a few days and 20 MMcfd eventually.

On the same structure, Berkley 2 was to have been perforated in mid-February, and the Berkley 4 development well was to reach Upper Temblor in late March.

Berkley 3R on a separate structure was drilling at 19,764 ft, and the company had observed significant gas shows below 19,000 ft in the current open hole section. Berkley received $12.60/Mcf for its East Lost Hills gas in early February.

One of the four wells would be the redrill of the lower portion of the Bellevue 1-17R well (OGJ, Apr. 12, 1999, p. 75).
