Renewable energy

In general, I appreciate the articles in Oil & Gas Journal.

In general, I appreciate the articles in Oil & Gas Journal.

I read with interest "Improving viability of renewable energy beckons petroleum firms' investment" (OGJ, Dec. 13, 1999, p. 127), although I regret that there was no mention in your article of geothermal energy.

Not only has geothermal energy been exploited for decades in Italy, Iceland, New Zealand, and California, and to a lesser extent in several other countries, but it has close connections with the oil industry. Like the oil industry, it requires geological, geophysical, and drilling services and, as you certainly know, one oil company, Unocal, is engaged in the exploitation of geothermal energy.
