Process control unit

The new Type 8630/31 fully integrated Top Control head unit is designed for decentralized intelligent process control.

It can interface with a complete line of 1/2 in. to 2 in angle globe, quarter turn ball, and diaphragm valves with an advanced top-down control technology. With seven built-in flow characteristics (three fast opening, one linear, and three equal percentage) and the ability to design your own flow curve, the need for various internal valve trims is eliminated. The 8630/31 also allows set point adjust to be done at the valve or externally via standard analog input signals. A variety of direct sensor inputs is also available including RTD, 4-20 ma, and frequency; as well as multiple electrical interfaces including ASI, Multipin, Cable Gland, Profibus, and DeviceNET. Control head units are easily linked to existing process automation systems.

These decentralized intelligent controllers-mounted on a valve and direct linked to a sensor-create a local control loop with enhanced communication capabilities. With accuracy better than 1%, the unit is suited for applications requiring an advanced level of process automation such as in chemical plant operations.

Natural gas dryers

These natural gas dryers are designed to remove moisture vapor and condensed liquids from pipelines and before points of pressure reduction. Benefits include preventing freezeups that can completely block gas flow and protecting instruments and equipment against problems such as fouling and corrosion. The desiccant requires no regeneration.

All models feature ASME construction and simple, reliable operation. Wet gas automatically and continuously flows through the inlet, and heavier drops of liquid fall to the claim area at the bottom of the vessel. The gas then moves upward through a bed of drying tablets, which slowly dissolve as they absorb water vapor. Condensate falls to the claim area to be drained.

Systems are designed to meet contract specifications at most working pressures. A variety of desiccants is available to meet various inlet conditions and system requirements.

Thermometer reads accurately to ~0.005° C.

The new Model 1522 hand held thermometer achieves accuracies as high as ~0.005° C. and provides complete data logging functions. The battery-powered 1522 reads PRTs (to ~0.025° C.) and thermistors (to ~0.005° C.) with user-selectable resolution as high as 0.001°.

Using the automatic data log function, up to 10,000 measurements can be stored in intervals from 1 sec to 1 hr in multiple sessions. Data sets are tagged internally with user-defined labels for identification and downloading to a PC.

Data sets may be downloaded to a PC using a high-speed IR link or standard RS-232 link. With the optional LogWare software, data are easily analyzed graphically or statistically.

Probes connect to the unit using INFO-CON connectors, partially based on US Patent 5,857,777. The INFO-CON stores the probe's serial number, recall date, conversion method, and (if calibrated) coefficients. When probes are connected to the 1522, this information is automatically downloaded so the user may take readings without spending time programming the thermometer to match the probe being used.

Each 1522 includes a NIST-traceable certificate of calibration and ships with batteries, an RS-232 cable, and a spare INFO-CON connector. Software, an IR dongle, and carrying cases are also available.
