Burlington drills ultradeep Wyoming well

- On location for Burlington Resources in central Wyoming (Madden Deep Unit), Unit Drilling Co.'s Rig 201 recently set a producing depth record for the Wyoming and Rocky Mountain area at 24,938 ft. This rig, one of North America's largest, has a 40-ft tall substructure, three Continental Emsco 1,600-hp pumps, a National Oilwell power swivel, four Caterpillar 1,500-hp engines (each), and a 152-ft tall derrick rated at 2 million lb (Fig. 1).
