Jack Krug has been named acting president of American International Petroleum Corp.'s (AIPC) exploration and production division.
In other personnel news of note this week, the International Association of Drilling Contractors has appointed a new chairman and other officers for 2001.
AIPC appointement
AIPC Chairman George Faris said, "...Krug's extensive knowledge and 30-year background in the oil and gas industry, including his expertise in exploration and development in the former Soviet Union, makes him particularly qualified to lead the company's exploration and development division. He has had key roles in the successful development of various domestic and international oil and gas projects, including heading Chaparral Resources."
Before joining New York-based AIPC, Krug was president and COO of Houston-based Chaparral Resources Inc., managing the daily operations of the company and its Karakuduk joint venture in Kazakhstan.
Krug was instrumental in obtaining financing for the initial stages of field development that includes plans to drill over 100 production and injection wells and install the necessary infrastructure. In addition, he has extensive working knowledge of running oil and gas companies in Russia and Kazakhstan.
Faris said that he expects that Krug will formally take over the role of president of the oil and gas E&P division once the company appoints a permanent president and CEO of the corporation.
Krug began working in Russia and Kazakhstan in 1991 as a consulting petroleum engineer, initially traveling throughout the FSU, gathering data and evaluating joint venture opportunities for various clients. In 1992, he began directing and managing in-country the first of three joint ventures, two located in Russia and the other in Kazakhstan.
He replaces Johnny Kopecky, who resigned as AIPC E&P president and has entered into a consulting contract with the company.
IADC
Thomas P. Richards, president and CEO of Grey Wolf Inc., Houston, has been elected by IADC's board to serve as 2001 IADC chairman.
Elected to the position of 2001 IADC vice-chairman was C. Sted- man Garber Jr., president and CEO of Santa Fe International Corp., Dallas. Larry Dickerson, president and CEO of Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc., Houston, was chosen as IADC's 2001 secretary-treasurer.
In 1966, Richards joined Global Marine Drilling Co. as a roughneck. After holding several management positions in the drilling contracting business, he became the president and CEO of DI Industries, which acquired a dozen drilling firms, including Grey Wolf Drilling Co. DI became Grey Wolf Inc. in 1997.
Richards previously served as IADC vice-chairman, secretary-treasurer, and as a member of its executive committee.
Garber joined Santa Fe in 1984 as vice-president of planning and acquisitions and in 1989 was appointed president of Santa Fe Minerals Inc. In 1991, he was named executive vice-president and CEO of Santa Fe.
During 1977-84, and before joining Santa Fe, Garber served with Getty Oil Co. Then, during 1972-77, he was vice-president, corporate finance, for Blyth Eastman Dillion & Co.
Garber is a director of IADC and served as secretary-treasurer during 2000.
Before being named to his current position at Diamond Offshore, Dickerson served as senior vice-president and chief financial officer. Garber joined the offshore drilling firm in 1979 and has since held various management and financial postions.
Garber is currently a director with IADC and also serves as a director and is a member of the executive committee with the National Ocean Industries Association.
