Politics of global problems

I realize that we are still in the "silly season" when a paucity of newsworthy items often results in a proliferation of nonsensical reports and articles in the media.

I realize that we are still in the "silly season" when a paucity of newsworthy items often results in a proliferation of nonsensical reports and articles in the media. However, the jingoistic and xenophobic ranting of Toby Elster "Politics of global problems" (OGJ, July. 17, 2000, p. 19) breach even the normal "silly season" low standards.

The Oil & Gas Journal strives to be a respected publication within the international oil and gas industry. For the most part, it achieves this objective. The publication of letters such as that of Mr. Elster provides no useful information and offers no reasoned opinion and only diminishes the stature and standing of your Journal.
