PERSONNEL MOVES AND PROMOTIONS: Halliburton's Cheney accepts Bush's nomination for US vice-president

At a special meeting called early last week, Halliburton Co.'s board accepted the resignation of its chairman and CEO, Dick Cheney, after he made known his intentions to accept the bid from Republican Party presidential nominee George W. Bush to be Bush's vice presidential running mate.

At a special meeting called early last week, Halliburton Co.'s board accepted the resignation of its chairman and CEO, Dick Cheney, after he made known his intentions to accept the bid from Republican Party presidential nominee George W. Bush to be Bush's vice presidential running mate.

Halliburton's board then named David J. Lesar, the company's president and COO, to the board as its chairman, president, and CEO.

Cheney, who had joined Halliburton in 1995, said, "I have greatly enjoyed working with the worldwide family of Halliburton employees and customers during my employment with Halliburton."

Lesar joined Halliburton in 1993 as the executive vice-president and CFO of Halliburton Energy Services. Lesar also served as CFO of Halliburton Co. and president and CEO of business unit Brown & Root Inc. "Halliburton has immensely benefited from Dick Cheney's leadership and the worldwide respect he commands," he said. "Together we have established corporate strategies that will remain in place and continue to lead Halliburton in the future."

Both Cheney's resignation and Lesar's appointment become effective Aug. 16.

Other personnel moves

In other personnel news, Curt Anastasio has been named president and COO of Shamrock Logistics, Ultramar Diamond Shamrock's newly consolidated pipeline and terminal operation, San Antonio. He joined the company in 1988. Anastasio was vice-president, general counsel, and corporate secretary. In his new role he will continue as corporate secretary.

J. Bradley Fisher has been promoted to vice-president, operations, of Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc., Houston. He was manager, operations. Prior to joining the company he was with Cody Energy Inc. and its predecessor Ultramar Oil & Gas Ltd.

Erling Øverland, executive vice-president of Statoil, has been named chairman of the Borealis petrochemical group, Copenhagen. He succeeds Terje Vareberg, who has left the group.

Charles (Chuck) R. Erwin, a member of Magnum Hunter Resources Inc.'s management team in Irving, Tex., has been promoted to senior vice-president, exploration. He joined the company in 1999. Erwin previously worked for Enserch Exploration Corp. for over 22 years. He also served with Texaco Inc. for 2 years.

Bob Malone has been named regional president, western US. He was president, CEO, and COO of Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. Before that Malone was responsible for BP's interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System and other North Slope pipelines.
