The Model C53 conductivity analyzer is compact and easy to use.

It's two sensor inputs can be independently configured to measure conductivity, resistivity, or total dissolved solids. It accepts the Model 3400-series enhanced performance conductivity sensors and others. The utilized dry calibration method provides accuracy across the conductivity ranges of ultrapure water to 200,000 microSiemens/cm. The analyzer has a large backlit graphic LCD to display the two measured conductivity points, process temperature, two analog outputs, and four alarms. Menu screens contain up to six full lines of text to guide the user through setup, calibration, and operation. Its firmware provides multilanguage operation with standard English, French, German, or Spanish.

Each isolated analog output is selectable as either 0-20 ma or 4-20 ma, and voltage. Up to four alarm control contacts are also provided. The C53 is housed in an epoxy-coated, metal NEMA 4X 1/2 DIN enclosure, suited for panel, surface, or pipe mounting.

Drilling data management software

Drilling Office 2.0-with the WellTRAK well tracking, reporting, and knowledge system-is commercially available. The software helps simplify reporting tasks and supports distributed asset teams through the use of web site posting.

WellTRAK lets users design an activity-based well plan for drilling operations and compare operations against the plan to stay on track. With a streamlined interface and designed with the rig supervisor in mind, this application enables users to capture daily operational data, highlight operational anomalies, and create daily reports at the touch of a button. Data from offset wells can be used and modified to design new plans, helping improve each cycle and quickly arriving at the optimum well plan. Features such as drop-down activity pick lists help ensure that data entry is user friendly.

WellTRAK stores data in the GeoFrame shared project data base. Used by other Drilling Office applications besides WellTRAK, GeoFrame provides common data access to all team members. This architecture enables the Drilling Office user to run hydraulics and torque and drag analyses at the touch of a button using WellTRAK daily report data. The data captured at the rig site can be merged into a GeoFrame project data base at the office.

New BOP

Cameron has designed a new blowout preventer intended for use as an emergency safety head for snubbing, coiled tubing, workover, and drilling operations.

The new Model C unit uses dual string interlocking rams in combination with a large diameter operating piston to promise reliable shearing and sealing under demanding conditions, the company says.

The C preventer was designed for use with Halliburton's Anaconda technology where it will be used on a platform as part of a seven-cavity BOP stack on a well drilled with composite materials.

TheBOP has been fully tested and has sheared wireline, braided cable, perforating guns, and gravel pack screen assemblies, the maker notes. It meets applicable API, DNV, NORSOK, and HSE specifications.

The BOP is compact and is available in 7 and 11 in. 10,000 and 15,000 psi wp models. The 15 in. diameter operating piston provides shearing capacity to help ensure reliable shearing and sealing with a maximum closing pressure of 2,800 psi.

The unit incorporates field proved, hydromechanical wedge locks for closing and locking. It operates with three functions. The close and lock functions are independent, allowing shearing without automatically locking. A sequence valve causes the unlock function to be automatically activated before the opening function.

New butterfly valve

The new ZeroLeak Neldisc butterfly valve promises bubbletight shutoff. The unit's low operating torque allows for the use of smaller actuators.

Microscopic surface defects on the valve's hard faced metal-to-metal seats are impregnated with a polymer. This allows long lasting bubbletight shut-off in temperatures from cryogenic to +320° C. (+608° F.).

Minimized friction on sliding surfaces helps reduce the breaking force and operating torque of the valve by as much as 50% compared with other metal-seated butterfly valves, the company points out. This makes it possible to reduce valve package costs by specifying a smaller actuator and supporting structures.

Valves are fire safe. In the event of a fire, the valve promises to maintain an

ANSI class 5 (ISO 5208 Rate D) shutoff associated with standard metal seat designs.

ZeroLeak valves are designed for easy maintenance and fast, easy seat replacements. Existing Neldisc valves can be upgraded by installing ZeroLeak seats in the field.
