Modeling software for salt dome mapping

A new approach for salt dome mapping is offered via the ShapesProspector PC-based earth modeling software.

The product is capable of handling multiple Z values in salt dome mapping. Specifically designed for exploration and production geologists and engineers, ShapesProspector promises speed, accuracy, and ease of use, the company says.

Its portability and advanced functionality can help geologists interpret complex geologic structures in half the time at a fraction of the cost, the firm points out.

By integrating 2D and 3D model construction, visualization, and analysis, ShapesProspector produces fast PC renderings of complex surfaces and volumes; accurate horizon construction, contouring and crosssectioning; easy-to-use fault plane construction and fault networking tools; and real-time updates between 2D and 3D views for accurate geometric modeling immediately in 3D.

New process mixes drilling fluids

A new patented process promises to mix drilling fluids efficiently.

Overall material savings exceeding 20% can be obtained by mixing accurate lab quality fluids at the drillsite, the company says. Environmental waste disposal costs are almost eliminated because no bags or one time containers are necessary, the firm notes. The automated system combines polymers, thickeners, and other bulk powders that are transported to the drilling site in patented collapsible and reusable containers. The powders are quickly and completely dispersed utilizing the patented technology of the ARDE Megagrinder shearing pump supplied by ARDE Barinco Inc., Norwood, NJ.

The system combines a design that manages the supply of bulk powder materials while eliminating waste disposal costs normally associated with this process and an optimized mixing system that includes the Megagrinder. Large volumes can be made with the precise formula required. The Megagrinder uses a high speed heavy duty rotor/stator built of abrasion resistant 174 PH stainless steel material. All lumps and agglomerations of powders are quickly smoothed out and incorporated into the batch. The correct viscosity is obtained each time, the company says. The bulk powder storage and delivery system meters the correct amount into the mixing batch without losses or wastes.

Here's the new line of Vectra liquid-ring vacuum pumps.

Capacity ranges are 115-2,860 cfm for general industrial and chemical processing applications. The company is offering a 3 year warranty.

The new pump line uses advanced 3D modeling systems and finite element analysis to help ensure a solution for specific applications. The company also utilized computational fluid dynamics that generates and traces how various gas and fluids will flow through the pump.

The Vectra CL offers built-in mechanical seals, direct drive speeds for 60 hz and 50 hz power sources, and a broad capacity range. In addition, cone angles are optimized to reduce the size of the pump. The company's patented gas scavenging technology helps improve pump performance at high vacuum levels.

The Vectra XL model is designed much like the CL, but is built to stand up to the harsh chemical processing environment. It is constructed of ductile iron and stainless steel. The XL can accommodate a variety of mechanical seals as well as achieve higher differential and hydrotest pressure ratings than the GL.

Land cementing pumper

The new CemSTREAK pumper, a compact land cementing unit, handles cementing needs and facilitates operations in difficult and hard-to-reach drilling locations. This lightweight, low-maintenance truck with four-wheel drive is specifically designed for quick rig-up, rig-down, and cleanup. With its quick turnaroundtime, the unit has successfully performed more than six jobs in 1 dayduring field tests, the company notes.

The pumper can mix and pump all slurry types, including the new UniSLURRY system that employs synergy to reduce additive concentrations.
