Lone Star Steel Co., Lone Star, Tex., has named Rusty Fisher and Paul Leatherwood vice president, line pipe sales, and vice president, purchasing services, respectively.

Fisher joined the company in 1995 and has managed the line pipe sales since that time. Prior to his employment with Lone Star he was general sales manager for Tex-Tube Co. Houston, a strategic alliance partner with Lone Star. He will continue to report to Steve Fowler, senior, vice president, sales and marketing.

Leatherwood joined Lone Star Steel Co. in 1998 and since that time has directed all procurement activities including metallic acquisition, the material and supply warehouse, investment recovery and land use. Prior to joining Lone Star he was director of purchasing for Enserch Exploration, Inc. He will continue to report to Byron Dunn.

Stone & Webster Engineers & Constructors, Inc. has named George C. Friddle vice president of Stone & Webster Engineers & Constructors, Inc. (SWE&C) and director of worldwide marketing and sales for SWE&C's Process Div. Friddle reports to D. Keith Dodson, Senior Vice President of SWE&C.

Friddle joins Stone & Webster from Parsons Energy & Chemicals where he held the position of vice president, business development for the oil/gas, refining and petrochemicals industry sectors. While in this position, he led the direct sales effort to clients, emphasizing major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, and was responsible for overseeing the development and introduction of the company's capabilities to key executives industry-wide.

Friddle held various international and domestic positions at the Bechtel Corp. He began an 18-year career there as manager of special projects and advanced to vice president of business development, including international assignments in Canada and Japan.

Most of his earlier career was spent with Ethyl Corp. in its international division. There he was responsible for the market development of organo-metallic compounds in Western Europe, Eastern Block, Middle East and South America.

Peter Marshall has been named managing director of Stone & Webster Engineering Limited reporting to Peter Evans, president and chief operating officer of Stone & Webster Engineers and Constructors, Inc. Marshall replaces Graham Rutherford who retired after 29 years with the company.

Marshall has extensive project execution, technology and management experience with Kvaerner John Brown, Davy McKee and UOP Process Div. being responsible for many types of projects in many countries. He was recently managing director of Kvaerner's Portsmouth and London offices.

John Wood Group PLC, Aberdeen, Scotland, has major plans to develop turbine and oil services business in the Middle East, with an expectation of doubling turnover in the region in the next three years.

Bert Daly has been named regional managing director, Middle East and North Africa, based in Dubai.

A director of Wood Group Gas Turbines, an independent gas turbine repair and overhaul company and a division of John Wood Group PLC, Daly will be responsible for business development in the region for the group. This includes responsibility for the other two divisions of John Wood Group PLC-Wood Group Engineering & Operations Support and Wood Group Petroleum Services.

Wood Group already has a strong presence in the region, supporting international and national oil companies as well as external companies helping to develop resources. Wood Group Pressure Control operates a wellhead manufacturing facility in Abu Dhabi, at the Mussaffah Industrial Estate. In the Jebel A* Free Zone, Wood Group Gas Turbines is currently building a turbine repair and overhaul and engine test facility.

Wood Group Gas Turbines, a division of international energy services company John Wood Group PLC, provides repair and overhaul services to the aero industry and industrial gas turbine users. Its service range includes Allison, Pratt and Whitney, GE, Rolls-Royce, Solar, EGT, Siemens and ABB gas turbines.

Pipeline Engineering, North Yorkshire, UK, has named David Bacon special projects director. His brief is to expand Pipeline Engineering's work in one-off projects such as unique pipeline pigging and isolation problems.

Bacon joined BP UK in 1990 as a consultant, responsible for the decommissioning and subsequent recommissioning of the BP Villages' pipelines. The pipelines were decommissioned to allow subsea isolation safety valves to be installed. The work involved close liaison with DEN inspectorate for pipeline and safety diving, as BP was the first oil company to use high friction pigs as a means of subsea isolation in a live gas pipeline.

Bacon joined Brown and Root in 1991, where he was part of the team involved in commissioning Statoil's Zeepipe gas transportation, then by far the longest subsea pipeline in the world.

Pipeline Engineering manufactures a range of pipeline cleaning, isolation and testing equipment for use in the oil and gas industry worldwide. This includes cleaning and separation pigs, pig launching and receiving hardware, signalling devices for locating the pigs and oil and gas flow stopping equipment.

Weir Pumps, Glasgow, Scotland, has named Stuart Oakley director of oil, downhole and subsea.

Oakley has held senior management positions in floating production, subsea and offshore construction in both the North Sea and the international oil and gas industry. He has worked for multinationals such as Smedvig Offshore and McDermott International.

Oakley also has considerable experience in formulating new business strategies and developing geographical areas.

GRI Canada, an affiliate of GRI-a natural gas research and technology organization in the US-has opened a Calgary office that will offer a portfolio of technologies and services to gas producers.

The office will offer a portfolio that includes coalbed methane, hydraulic fracturing, advanced well stimulation, gas processing, reservoir diagnostics, emerging resources (biomass and unconventional gas), produced water technologies, and overall project management. GRI Canada also has an office in Toronto, which offers complementary programs in technology development related to the transmission, distribution and use of natural gas in safe, cost-effective and environmentally beneficial ways.

Vini Chari, former director of engineering at Smith International Canada Ltd., Calgary, has been named sales and operations manager and will direct all activities at the Calgary office. The staff includes Paul Gagnon, director of technology transfer, and Ken Sinclair, senior advisor.

Chari has nearly 20 years of experience in the energy industry, including 17 years at Smith International, a Houston-based worldwide oilfield-service company and manufacturer. Most recently, he was director of engineering at Smith International Canada, with major responsibility for marketing and applications of technology in western Canada. Early in his career at Smith, he progressed through various engineering positions in Europe and the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates. Before joining Smith International in 1982, he was applications and field sales manager for 11 western U.S. states in the Process Equipment Division of Ametek Inc., a manufacturer of rotary vacuum filters, pressure leaf filters and centrifuges.

Chicago-based GRI manages a research, development and commercialization program that benefits the entire natural gas industry and its customers, as well as targeted technology development efforts in partnership with individual organizations and consortia. GRI technologies and practices improve the competitiveness of the natural gas business and provide cost savings and other benefits for customers.

GRI Canada and GRI serve natural gas producers through offices in Calgary and Toronto, Chicago, Houston, Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Denver.

MDC Technology, Teesside, UK, has named Greg McCormack business development director for the hydrocarbon industry for MDC Technology Inc., Houston, Tex.

McCormack, previously a director of global downstream with Cambridge Energy Research Associates, has over 25 years of experience in the application of advanced technologies to the oil and gas exploration and production, refining, petrochemical and chemical industries.

McCormack will be responsible for working with hydrocarbon industry clients in North and South America to add shareholder value to their organisations.

Turner, Mason & Co., Dallas, Tex., has named James W. Jones vice president.

Jones joined the firm in 1994 after many years of experience in refinery operations management at LaGloria Oil & Gas. In his new position, Jones will continue to advance his consulting work in the areas of refinery process management and operations analysis, refinery fair market value analysis and petroleum refining economics.

Turner, Mason & Co. provides management and engineering consulting services for the petroleum and petrochemical industries.

The firm serves a wide variety of clients, including integrated oil companies, petroleum refining and marketing companies, crude producers, petrochemical companies, financial institutions, individual and institutional investors, law firms, government agencies, utilities, petroleum industry associations and various other industry groups.

Perry Tritech, Inc., Jupiter, Fla., has named Bruce Lokay vice president for sales and marketing. Lokay has twenty years of experience in the field of offshore construction and diverless intervention technologies including eight years previously with Perry Tritech and latterly two years with Stolt Comex Seaway Inc. in Houston as general manager for Subsea Solutions.

Jon Machin has been named manager for Ocean Systems and Seafloor Technologies. Machin is one of the offshore industry's foremost experts in geotechnical engineering. He has held senior engineering positions for several leading offshore contractors including the Coflexip Stena Offshore Group.

Perry Tritech, a member of the Coflexip Stena Offshore Group, designs and manufactures remotely operated vehicle (ROVs) and related subsea equipment. For over 30 years, the company has developed subsea intervention technologies for the oil and gas, telecom, and other specialist markets. The company markets a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art ROVs, robotic tooling products, and robotic engineering capabilities; all backed by a worldwide network of aftersales service and support.

Global Marine, Houston, Tex., has named Thomas R. Johnson senior vice president and chief administrative officer. Johnson was previously vice president and corporate controller. Johnson will be responsible for administration, human resources and information services.

Douglas C. Stegall was named vice president and controller of Gobal Marine Inc. to succeed Johnson.

Johnson joined Global Marine Inc. in 1980 as senior internal auditor and held the positions of audit manager and manager of financial reporting before being named corporate controller in 1988 and vice president in 1989. Prior to joining Global Marine, Johnson was audit manager for the Chicago & North Western Railroad and has also held various accounting positions with the state of Texas.

Stegall joined Global Marine as rig accounting manager in 1979 and was promoted to controller of Global Marine Drilling Co., a wholly-owned subsidiary, in 1984. In 1986 he was promoted to vice president and controller for Global Marine Drilling Co. Before joining Global Marine, Stegall served in various accounting positions at Drilling Tools, Inc., Storm Drilling, Marine Inc., and Diamond M Drilling Co.

Global Marine is an offshore drilling contractor. In addition, the company is a provider of offshore drilling management services.
